International Pasta-bilities

Happy World Pasta Day! Dating back to 5,000 b.c., this versatile staple has been adopted and loved by people everywhere! In fact, there are over 600 different types of pasta! With so much to love, Feeser’s wants to celebrate and inspire by sharing some delicious pasta dishes from around the globe.

Gnocchi alla Sorrentina – Italy

Gnocchi alla Sorrentina is a classic Italian comfort food haling from the coastal town of Sorrento, Italy. The components are simple but flavorful; pillowy potato gnocchi, fresh tomatobasil sauce, and bubbling mozzarella.

Pasta con Salsa Caruso – Uruguay

Pasta con Salsa Caruso is a creamy pasta dish from South America’s Uruguay. The thick gravy-like sauce, a unique combination of beef bouillon and heavy cream, perfectly balances with smokey ham and meaty mushrooms for an intensely satisfying experience! While this sauce can be served over a variety of pastas, we reccomend tortellini – a traditional shape used in many Urugayan homes and restaurants!

Pastitsio – Greece

Often described as “Greek Lasagna,” pastitsio is a hearty baked pasta dish from Greece. Made by layering ziti with a meaty tomato-based sauce spiced with cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg, and topped with a creamy bechamel sauce; this warming meal is perfect for fall and winter!

Wafu Pasta – Japan

“Wafu Pasta” translates to “Japanese-style pasta,” and refers to a variety of pasta dishes made by combining popular Japanese ingredients, such as soy sauce, miso paste, or rice wine, with western-influenced ingredients like butter, bacon, and even ketchup! The most popular version is a vegetarian recipe packed with umami. Simply combine spaghetti and sautéed mushrooms (we recommend shiitake, maitake, and cremini!) with a soy-butter sauce, top with sesame seeds, and enjoy!

Macarrones con Chorizo – Spain

Macarrones con Chorizo uses only a few ingredients, but packs major flavor! A simple tomato sauce is brought to life by manchego cheese and chorizo, a garlicy pork sausage popular in Spain. Often served with penne, this dish is great with any tubular pasta shape!
